Our invitations

The invitations are out and we're starting to get some RSVPs. It's a nice feeling to be getting so much mail!

Neither Lee nor I are overly creative types so the invitations are rather plain and simple (kind of like us). They pale in comparison with some of the beautiful ones I've seen on the Internet, but we're rather happy with the final result. We used the gorgeous Paper Source Luxe White 210g paper and A7 envelopes and A2 sage envelopes.

I forgot to take pictures of the entire package, but here are a few snaps of the individual components.

I'm happiest with the little booklet that contains the map, hotel information and brunch information (some guest's booklets also had the rehearsal dinner information).

We decided to forgo the inner envelope and just wrapped the invitation, RSVP, and information booklet with a bellyband indicating who was invited.

The British guests also got a little card with information about the UK reception.

I really wanted to line the envelopes with pretty paper but Lee's practical voice won out as it really would only add more cost and weight. Besides lined envelopes, I also love the look of cool or vintage stamps. However, practicality won out again and we were happy to go with standard Canada Post Audrey Hepburn stamp.

It was quite a nice feeling to post them off (albeit somewhat unceremoniously into the big Royal Mailbox outside our front door as I'm not bothered by the whole 'hand-cancelling' thing). I figure the envelope is going to get chewed up a bit in transit anyways...

We managed to create 100 of these bad boys for $274 Cdn (with postage) without too many fights, sweat, or tears. Result.

Love the invites - wondering if I can ask how you decided who to invite to the British reception? I will find myself in a similar situation in the next year or so (except I'm American, he's Irish, we're in Ireland) and I would like to let the Americans know that they're welcome to come to Ireland for the post wedding blessing and reception but not sure if I should include details in the wedding invite or send something separate? And I'm also not sure if we'll do the Irish celebration soon after the wedding or if we'll wait awhile. Any insight you have after weighing pros and cons would be appreciated! So great to find someone in a similar situation! Keep up the excellent blogging - I really enjoy it!

Elizabeth -
Thanks for your lovely comments!

Cost and the size of our venue was an important factor in the decision as to who to ask for the British reception. Lee has a very large family and we felt that it was important that they should all be asked to both events. However with all of his family invited, we were very close to our max capacity for the UK reception.

So when we mailed the invitations, we limited the extra UK party inserts to people living in the UK and to my immediate family and some very close Canadian family friends. 70% of the UK party will be Lee's family/friends and I think the same inverse will probably hold true for the Canadian party.

That said, our website has information on the UK reception, so I wouldn't stop any of my Canadian friends from making the trip over!

Good luck with your planning from afar!

Hi--- I was wondering whether you printed these at home or had them printed? They look wonderful!

Kate - we just printed them at home on our epson laser jet (luckly without too many skewed prints)
