En route home...

I've known for quite a while that I wanted to register for white dishes. Although I love the look of some of the patterns out there, I'm pretty sure I would get sick of them in five years' time. I can dress up some nicer white dishes with lots of fun cheap stuff, depending on my mood and the season:

I thought I had picked out my dishes (and had even bought myself the covered dish for 70% off at TK Maxx) when I saw this design by Sophie Conran by Portmeiron online:

I thought the sugar bowl was too cute!



Luckily Selfridges carries the line and just happens to be between work and the train station home. I popped in this afternoon and had a look.

It really is a gorgeous collection, but after a lot of thought, I realized that it just wasn't me. The lines are beautiful but I just didn't like how the edges of the plates and bowls weren't really straight; they kind of undulated and curved. Maybe my science-y brain can't appreciate things that aren't quite straight lines.

So I'm back (and happy) with my first choice: Denby White. It's solid, simple and plain. I like the weight of it and think that it can put up my clumsy self for quite a few years...



I also made a quick stop en route to the train in Accessorize and bought myself a little treat. I think I'll wear it on the wedding day in the low chignon that I've been picturing in my head...Not as nice as some of the Regina B ones I've read about, but at 10 pounds it hardly broke the bank.

On the home front

There hasn't been much to do on the wedding-related front for the past week or so...We're gearing up for a move into a new flat in the next couple of weeks, so I've started to pack away all of my wedding magazines and all of the DIY bits and bobs.

The thought of a new place (and an additional bedroom) has made me quite excited, although I'm certainly not looking forward to the actual moving process. We've agreed to save money towards the wedding and not flat-related things but that doesn't stop me from:

Fun wedding/home purchase

I haven't told Lee yet, but look what I bought for our flat/the wedding:

I know I'm pushing the whole 'rule Britannia' stuff a bit and have promised myself not to fill the wedding reception with too much UK-related paraphernalia, but I could not resist.

I'm picturing the pillow both in our flat and on one of the couches during the cocktail hour...two birds with one stone I say!

A boo-boo

Don't you just hate it when you make silly mistakes? I was kicking myself over the weekend after I realized that I had ordered the wrong colour from Paper Source. It wasn't quite as bad as ordering black instead of white, but there is a subtle difference between leaf and sage. (I wanted the former but ordered the latter.)

It really isn't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but I much preferred the darker colour (particularly as I'd matched up our cheeseball logo with the leaf colour). Oh well, eh? I'm just excited to actually start work on these suckers in the next few months.

All of our supplies were graciously 'imported' by one of my bridesmaids' husband from Seattle into Canada. Thanks Mike! The white paper and envelopes will be for all of the invitation-related crappola and thank you cards. The green paper will be for the belly bands, and the green envelopes will be for the RSVP cards and the thank you cards.

I'm of course loving the colour scheme chosen for this wedding, which took place at the gorgeous Glenerin Inn in Mississauga.

Registering in the UK

According to the countdown function on the Knot, we have 182 days to go and I've got 9 items overdue and 130 still left to do. I guess the checklist function is useful to some people but just seeing it stresses me out.

One of our 'to dos' for this month is to start looking into registering. We've decided to only register in the UK mainly because it is far too costly to ship/bring gifts back from Canada. This unfortunately has restricted our registration options to stores that offer online registry functions. From what I can find, there are only 2 UK department stores that do this: John Lewis and Debenhams. John Lewis certainly has a greater selection of choice but get this - they only allow a 'certain number of registries per month' and the registry only opens 6 weeks before the wedding and shuts 2 weeks after the wedding. What is up with that?

So needless to say, we'll be heading over to Debenhams in the near future...
